Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Could Sport In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

Last year, Xiaomi’s bezel-less design concept smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi Mix excited the tech enthusiasts because of its 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio design with narrow bezels. This year, the Chinese smartphone maker is expected to take a notch up with a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio design. Xiaomi has recently confirmed the development of Mi Mix successor and said that the smartphone will be designed by Philippe Starck. Now, the latest rumours are claiming that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will boast a fingerprint scanner inside the display.

The in-display fingerprint scanning technology was showcased by a Chinese manufacturer, Goodix at the MWC 2017 which proves that the in-display fingerprint technology is no more a conceptual thing.

Besides, the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 is rumoured to feature a fingerprint sensor underneath its display and an all-screen front as well. By doing this, the company will ditch the Touch ID button from iPhone. However, the in-display fingerprint tech is currently in the making, so the integration of such sensor might not possible in iPhone 8.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Could Sport In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

Previously, Samsung was rumoured to feature a fingerprint scanner underneath the display of the upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone.  But, the recent leaks and rumours are stating that the fingerprint sensor on Samsung Galaxy S8 will be placed on the rear panel. Moreover, the company will offer an IRIS scanner within the device.

As per a report by GizmoChina, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will be launching sometime in the second half of 2017 and will make use of the in-display fingerprint technology. The report quoted a Chinese analyst.

If Xiaomi manages to deploy the in-display fingerprint sensor technology successfully in its Mi Mix 2, then it would be the first tech firm to offer the new technology in a smartphone.

The Mi Mix smartphone features a 91.3 percent of the screen-to-body ratio which is already an achievement in smartphone design and with a 93 percent of screen-to-body ratio, the second gen Mi Mix will be a rejoice.

Talking about the other narrow bezel devices, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge offers a screen-to-body ratio of 76.1 percent, whereas the recently launched LG G6 features a decent 78.37 percent ratio.
