This Smartwatch Charges Itself with Body Heat

A smartwatch is a computerized wristwatch which offers functionality beyond timekeeping. The basic models of smartwatch were meant for performing basic tasks such as translation, calculations, and game-playing. However, the latest smartwatches can perform every task equivalent to latest mobiles in the market. And sometimes, smartwatches offer even more functionality than smartphones like accurate heart rate monitoring and others.

The one prominent reason which frustrates smartwatch users is the battery life. Most of the smartwatches available in market claim to deliver about two days of battery life in some cases. However, that never happens. If you have ever used a smartwatch, you already know these claims are all false. You could be lucky if you could pull out the watch somewhere between a day or two with normal usage. On contrary to this, how about a smartwatch which will never demand you for any charging at all? A smartwatch which can charge itself is a reality.

The MATRIX PowerWatch is the world’s first smartwatch which charges itself with your body heat. The watch measures the calories burned, sleep, activity level, and uses advanced thermoelectric technology. Furthermore, the smartwatch can tell you how much electrical power your body is generating via a power meter feature. The MATRIX PowerWatch surpluses your body heat when you remove it from your wrist and goes in sleep mode; however the data is stored in memory. And when you wear it back, the watch takes you back where you left it.

The MATRIX PowerWatch uses a thermoelectric technology which receives power from body heat, so you never have to charge the watch or even replace its battery. The watch comprises a nano-material, advanced thermal engineering, and the most recent low-power electronics which run completely on the heat generated from the body. The smartwatch is made out of a rugged aircraft-grade aluminum material. It syncs wirelessly with your smartphone and adjusts itself according to the current time zone automatically. It also features changeable watch faces. Coming to the functionality, the watch can track advanced activity, calorie, sleep, and power generation and it can stores up the data up to a year’s worth.

The MATRIX PowerWatch offers a high contrast display alongside a military-grade nylon strap. The watch is water resistant up to 50 meters. You can actually check how much power is being generated by your body and power generated for the day. The MATRIX PowerWatch has ditched the traditional charging concepts in a smartwatch. Besides, there is no mention about other features of the watch. The watch is built around the Ambiq Apollo chipset which is an ultra-low power consuming chipset. The MATRIX PowerWatch is now available for pre-orders on the crowdfunding site, Indiegogo and it is expected to get shipped in July 2017. The suggested retail price of the watch will be $169.99, however, the super early birds will get it for $119.

This is not the first time when a device gets the supply of juice from body heat. Similar technologies were already seen in devices such as a flashlight and an energy pocket which can charge your other device using the body heat. However, MATRIX PowerWatch could be the first smartwatch to feature such technology.
